
Biography
Patrick is an experienced litigator who represents insurance companies and their insureds in the state and federal courts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. Patrick specializes in the defense of personal injury claims involving premises liability, automobile, dram shop, catastrophic construction accidents, wrongful death, products liability and recreational and amusement accidents. He also defends insurance companies and insureds against construction defect, property damage and subrogation claims. Patrick’s focus is to provide his clients with a wide range of options to achieve the most efficient and optimal outcome from a cost-benefit standpoint, always placing their business needs first. Patrick handles litigation at all stages from pre-lawsuit through the trial phases.
Patrick has successfully defended and obtained summary judgment dismissal on behalf of insureds in the New Jersey Supreme Court and New York Court of Appeals as well as the state appellate courts. Patrick obtained favorable settlements involving catastrophic injuries as well as large property loss claims.
Prior to entering private practice, Patrick clerked in the New Jersey Superior Court – Appellate Division for the Hon. Ariel A. Rodriguez (P.J.A.D.), who subsequently was elevated to the New Jersey Supreme Court on a temporary basis. Patrick interned for the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey and studied a semester at the National University of Ireland Galway while at Seton Hall University School of Law. He studied at the University of Alicante and was a member of the Seton Hall Rugby Club while completing his undergraduate degree at Seton Hall University.
Patrick enjoys running, golfing and spending time with his wife and four children. He coaches his daughters’ travel soccer teams as well as his son’s wrestling team.

Blackstock v. BP, 202 N.Y.3d 28, (1st Dep’t 2023), cert. denied, 41 N.Y.3d 906 (2024)
Represented a national gas station retailer in the First Department of New York as well as the New York Court of Appeals involving serious injuries from a trip and fall accident. Patrick obtained summary judgment dismissal in both appeal courts. Patrick established that the national gas station retailer had no control of the day-to- day operations pursuant to the franchise agreement.

Hecht v. Brick City Rescue, Inc., UNN-L-3709-20 (N.J. Sup. Ct. 2022)
Represented a dog rescue and animal shelter involving a dog bite in the Superior Court of New Jersey. Patrick obtained summary judgment dismissal on behalf of the dog rescue and animal shelter on the grounds that it did not own or control the dog.
Cadorett v. Navia, BER-L-6741-19 (N.J. Sup. Ct. 2022)
Represented a tavern and restaurant in the Superior Court of New Jersey involving a dram shop liability claim and traumatic brain injuries. Patrick obtained summary judgment dismissal by establishing that the tavern and restaurant exercised its legal duty by providing the keys of the vehicle to the designated driver. Patrick further established that it was not reasonably foreseeable that the designated driver would provide the vehicle keys to the intoxicated patron off premises.

Whitley v. Diamond Money Order Co., LLC, Docket No. 181201360 (PCCP 2020)
Represented a landlord in the Common Pleas of Philadelphia County concerning a slip and fall incident on snow and ice resulting in multiple ankle fractures requiring surgery. Patrick obtained summary judgment dismissal by arguing that the landlord had no legal duty to maintain the sidewalk as an out-of-possession landlord pursuant to the lease agreement and common law.
Shields v. Ramslee Motors, 240 N.J. 479, 223 A.3d 172 (2020)
Represented a landlord in the New Jersey Supreme Court involving a slip and fall accident resulting in spinal fusion surgery. Patrick obtained reversal of the Appellate Division's written decision and obtained summary judgment in favor of the landlord. The Supreme Court’s published decision limits the legal duties of an out-of- possession commercial landlord.
Prieto v. EH Associates, LLC, 2020 WL 7062481 (N.J. App. Div. 2020)
Represented a hotel against personal injury claims by an independent contractor who fell from a ladder. Patrick obtained summary judgment dismissal in the Superior Court of New Jersey and persuaded the Appellate Division to affirm summary judgment by arguing that the hotel had no legal duty to supervise the independent contractor’s work.
